In order to prolong the life of your vehicle, you need to give the engine the appropriate care it deserves.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;

           Here are 10 engine maintenance tips: 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Change the oil 
          &#xD;

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           If you do just one thing for your engine, it had better be changing the oil. It's the most important element in the performance of your car. The oil and filter should be changed every 3,000 to 6,000 miles but check with your owner's manual for the specifics on your vehicle. You should also periodically check the oil level. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Clean the engine
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The visual appearance of the engine is a good indicator of its condition. When your engine gets too dirty and greasy it affects the efficiency and performance of its parts. An oil and dirt convicted engine will hold in too much heat and not allow the heat to dissipate. The easiest way to clean the engine is to use a commercial degreaser. Simply spray it on the cool engine, let it sit for two or three minutes, and rinse clean.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           If you have a weekend cruiser that you store for the Winter, make sure that you fill the tank and add a fuel stabilizer to prevent the gas from going stale and to prevent condensation from forming. If your car is supercharged only use premium fuel.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;

           Change the belts
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;

           Most vehicles have a serpentine belt that runs various pumps and accessories and a timing belt that runs the engine itself. The belts will need replacing over time due to regular wear and tear. Don't wait until they actually break to replace them or you could risk further damage. Check with your owner's manual for scheduled belt replacement and have our technicians check your belts regularly.

           Ensuring that all fluid levels are topped off can maintain the health of your engine. This includes engine coolant, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid.

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           Your tires contribute to vehicle performance. Tire maintenance can protect your investment by extending the life of your tires. Checking tire pressure, rotating your tires, balancing your tires, and choosing the right set of replacement tires based on safety and handling will all contribute to consistent performance.

           Use the following tips to help you stay on top of tire maintenance:

  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;

      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Check tire pressure to ensure proper inflation. Under-inflation can lead to excess heat, uneven tire wear, and decreased braking and handling capabilities which can cause structural failures like blowouts and tread separation. Properly inflated tires will maximize tread life, improve handling, increase fuel efficiency, and increase driver safety.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Follow proper tire rotation schedules. Recommended rotation patterns for your vehicle can be found in your owner's manual. Regular tire rotations equalize and enhance front-to-rear and side-to-side wear. Remember, tire rotation will not prevent or circumvent wear issues caused by worn mechanical parts.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            Balance tires as necessary. Out-of-balance tires may be detected in bumps that become more noticeable at higher speeds. Balancing tires is necessary during initial installation and during a remount. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Install new tires in sets or pairs. The addition of one new tire to the rotation cycle can cause instability and create vehicle handling issues. When new tires are needed, two new tires should be installed on the rear of a vehicle and the partially worn tires should be moved to the front of the vehicle. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            When the time comes to store your tires for next season, consider a dark place away from direct sunlight and with low humidity. Tires should be stored away from solvents, grease, oil or any ozone-producing electrical equipment, which have deteriorating effects on tires. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Be mindful of abnormal tire wear or damage to your tires. Watch for signs of punctures, embedded objects, cracks, and bulges.
           &#xD;

    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           There are few things more frustrating than going out to your car only to find out it won't start. There are a number of things that could be causing this:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Dead Battery
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Perhaps the most common reason for cars not starting. If you turn your key but only hear a rapid clicking sound it is likely that you have a dead battery and will need a jump (see below).
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Corroded Battery Terminals
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           If absolutely nothing happens when you turn the key then pop the hood and take a look at your battery terminals. If they are covered in corrosion, there is a good chance that a thorough cleaning of the posts will get your car started back up again.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Car Won't Turn Over
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           If your engine cranks but won't start it could be one of two things. Either you need more fuel or, if you have enough gas, then you might need service done on your fuel injectors or ignition system to get them working properly again. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           Jump Start - To Safely Jump Start, Follow These Steps:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ol&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Take out your jumper cables. It's a good idea to buy a set of jumper cables and keep them in the trunk compartment. If you don't have jumper cables you'll have to find a Good Samaritan who is not only willing to assist you but has jumper cables as well.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Place both cars in park or neutral, with their ignitions shut off and the emergency brakes on. 
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Connect the cables. The positive cable has red clips at either end (+) and the negative cable has black clips (-). It's important to attach them in the following proper order:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ol&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                  a. First, attach one of the red clips to the positive terminal of your battery (it has "POS" or "+" on it).
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                  b. Attach the other red clip to the positive terminal of the Good Samaritan's car.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                  c. Attach one of the black clips to the negative terminal on the Good Samaritan's car.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                  d. Attach the last black clip to an unpainted metal surface on your car that isn't near the carburetor (if your car has one) or battery. See the image below. Make sure to connect in the proper order.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                  e. Try to start your vehicle. Note: Do not have the other car running. If your car has electrical issues it could damage their car as well. If it won't start check the cables to ensure they are connected properly. Then, try to start again. If it still won't start then your battery may be beyond help. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                  f. Disconnect the cables, thank the Good Samaritan, and resume your life. DON'T shut off your engine - drive around for awhile to recharge the battery.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           NOTE: Improper connection of cables can damage either or both vehicle's charging systems.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Prolonging the Life of Your Transmission and When to Service
          &#xD;

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Transmissions are heavy duty pieces of equipment that are designed to last a long time for most drivers. But, like any other machine, they'll eventually wear out and need repair. Here are some ways to prolong the health and life of your transmission:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Make sure your transmission always has enough fluid. Transmission fluid cools and lubricates the transmission. When there's not enough fluid the transmission will run hotter and wear out sooner. The transmission fluid also provides the pressure needed to transfer power from the engine to the transmission. Without enough fluid your transmission won't shift properly. Our service center will check your transmission fluid level with a full service oil change and top it off if needed. If you see any transmission fluid on the driveway (it's a reddish color) have us inspect it for a leak. A gasket, hose, or seal could be leaking and may need to be repaired. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The next thing you can do to prolong the life of your transmission is to replace your transmission fluid on schedule. As you can imagine, all those gears grinding on each other result in lots of little bits of metal in the fluid. The more there is, the faster the transmission parts will wear out. Transmission fluid also contains detergents and other additives to protect your transmission. These additives are depleted over time, so old fluid doesn't protect as well as new fluid. Your owner's manual or one of our service advisers will have a recommendation for when you should have a transmission service. If your transmission isn't shifting as smoothly as it should, or if you suspect a transmission leak, let one of our two conveniently located Bradenton, Florida service centers take a look to determine a need for transmission service. Regular maintenance and taking care of small leaks right away will help your transmission last as long as possible.

           A Little More On Why You Should Flush Out Your Transmission Fluid
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Your transmission's parts get clogged with sludge and varnish
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;

            deposits because, just like engine oil in your car's engine, automatic transmission fluid suffers from heat, friction, and electrochemical degradation. In fact, nearly 9 out of 10 transmission failures are due to overheating and fluid contamination*.

Clutch replacement service involves removing the driveline and transmission to replace the clutch plate, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, and pilot bearing. Master clutch cylinders and clutch slave cylinders can start leaking and fail to operate the clutch mechanism properly causing the clutch not to disengage and therefore making it very difficult to shift gears. This is a much easier repair and most of the time substantially less costly. It is always wiser to address clutch problems early - as soon as you experience the first problem. Early detection could result in just an adjustment or small repair, ultimately saving the more expensive components from premature wear.

           Tires are easily one of the most important components to our safety while driving. We rely on them for turning, braking, accelerating, road gripping during wet or dry conditions, and overall responsiveness as the link between our vehicle's suspension and the road. However, many drivers often overlook the importance of their tires and/or don't fully understand the various tire specifications and options. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           It is important to understand what size, load capacity, speed rating, and tire type is best for your vehicle. Choosing an improper tire can result in minor consequences, such as inaccurate speedometer readings, to major problems with steering, braking, and handling.

           Many consumers begin their tire purchase by looking to the "code" on the sidewall of each tire to determine the size needed. The manufacturer-recommended tire specification code can also be found in the owner's manual for your vehicle or on the vehicle placard (most commonly located on the side of the driver's door, the glove box door, or the fuel door). When doing this you may see a series of numbers and some letters such as in the image below:

Vehicle alignment is closely tied to the condition of the steering and suspension systems. Worn or loose components affect the ability to control the toe angle and may result in a loss of directional stability and accelerated tire wear.

           What Are Ball Joints All About?
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Ball joints are part of your vehicle's suspension system that connect the steering knuckles to the control arms. A ball joint is essentially a flexible ball and socket that allows the suspension to move and, at the same time, the wheels to steer. Cars and light trucks will have multiple ball joint assemblies depending on their type of suspension system. Like any other suspension component, ball joints will eventually wear out and become loose. Excessive play in the joint can affect wheel alignment and tire wear. Loose joints can also cause suspension noise (typically a "clunking" sound when going over a bump). If a ball joint fails the suspension can collapse causing a loss of control of the vehicle.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           What is a Tie Rod End All About?
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           A car's steering wheel is connected to the steering gear that helps the steering wheel turn the wheels. The steering gear is connected to the wheels via the tie rod ends. The job of the tie rod end is to ensure the wheels are aligned. It provides the adjustment for wheel alignment that keeps the tires from wearing out on the inner and outer edges. If they wear out, the wheels will lose alignment and you may find that the tires and steering wheel are shaking when you drive the car. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Shock Absorbers and Struts - How Do I Know If My Vehicle Really Needs New Shock Absorbers
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           You need new shocks (and/or struts) if your original shocks (or struts) are worn out, damaged, or leaking. Leaking is easy enough to see - just look for oil or wetness on the outside of the shock or strut - as is damage (broken mount, badly dented housing, etc.). But, wear is often a more subjective thing to judge. There are also instances where the original equipment shocks may not be worn, damaged, or leaking, but may not be adequate for the job they're being asked to do. In such cases, upgrading the suspension with stronger, stiffer, or some special type of shock (or strut) may be recommended to improve handling for trailer towing, hauling overloads, or other special uses. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Shocks and struts do not require replacing at specific mileage intervals like filters or spark plugs, but they do wear out and eventually have to be replaced. How long a set of original equipment shocks will last is anybody's guess. Some original equipment shocks may be getting weak after only 30,000 or 40,000 miles. Struts usually last upwards of 50,000 or 60,000 miles.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           But, when exactly a shock or strut needs to be replaced is hard to say. Because the damping characteristics of shocks and struts deteriorate gradually over time, the decline in ride control often passes unnoticed. So, by the time you think you need new shocks or struts it's usually way past the point when they should have been replaced. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Why Replace Them?
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Weak shocks and struts won't necessarily create a driving hazard if you continue to drive on them, but there are studies that show worn shocks increase the distance it takes to stop a vehicle on a rough surface. Increased body sway due to weak shocks or struts can also increase the risk of skidding on wet or slick surfaces. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Worn shocks and struts also increase suspension wear - though marginally - but can have an effect on tire wear.

           The reason why most people decide to have worn shocks or struts replaced, however, is to improve overall ride quality. If you're sick of bouncing and rocking on rough roads, a new set of shocks or struts will firm up your suspension and restore proper ride control. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           If you're interested in performance handling you can upgrade to premium "gas" charged shocks or struts. These are charged with high pressure nitrogen gas to help minimize foaming in the hydraulic fluid inside the shock. This lessens "fade" on rough roads and helps the vehicle maintain better ride control when cornering. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           There are also "heavy duty" replacement shocks and struts that have larger diameter pistons than stock. These also provide increased resistance for greater control but may be a little too harsh for everyday driving. Finally, some shocks have special or adjustable valving that allows the amount of resistance to vary. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Another option to consider if you tow a trailer or haul extra cargo are overload or air-assist shocks. Overload shocks have a coil spring around them to increase the load carrying capacity of the suspension (these also tend to ride stiffer than standard replacement shocks). Air-assist shocks have an adjustable air bladder that acts like a spring to carry extra weight. With this type of shock air can be added on an as-needed basis when hauling extra weight.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           A strut is basically a shock absorber mounted inside a coil spring. Struts perform two jobs: they provide a dampening function like shock absorbers and they provide structural support for the vehicle suspension. That means struts deliver a bit more than shock absorbers, which don't support vehicle weight - they only control the speed at which weight is transferred in a car, not the weight itself. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Because shocks and struts have so much to do with the handling of a car they can be considered critical safety features. Worn shocks and struts can allow excessive vehicle weight transfer from side to side and front to back. This reduces the ability of the tires to grip the road as well as handling and brake performance.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           When your car's engine is off the battery provides the required power to the rest of the system, as well as during start-up (cranking). It also supplements the power from the charging system during periods of high demand. Composed of a series of lead plates submerged in a 35% sulfuric acid/65% water solution, your 12-volt battery houses a chemical reaction that releases electrons through conductors, producing electricity, which is then channeled into your vehicle's electrical system.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Charging System
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The charging system is the life force of your vehicle's electrical system. It consists of 3 main components: the belt-driven alternator, various electrical circuits, and a voltage regulator. The alternator supplies power to the electrical system and recharges the battery after your car has started. Just like it sounds, the voltage regulator controls the voltage, keeping it within the operating range of the electrical system.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Starting System
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This system consumes more electrical power than any other component in your car. The starting system consists of 3 components which all work together: the ignition switch, the starter relay (or solenoid), and the starter motor. The ignition switch controls the starter solenoid, which activates the starter motor. The starter motor then turns the engine until your car starts.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Here's How It Works:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Turning the ignition causes a small amount of current to pass through the starter relay, causing stronger current to flow through the battery cables and into the starter motor. The starter motor cranks the engine, forcing the piston to create enough suction that draws a fuel and air mixture into the cylinder. The ignition system creates a spark that ignites the mixture and your engine starts.
          &#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           A weak or undercharged battery cannot provide the starter with enough electricity to turn the engine over. Your car may make a rapid clicking noise or just never quite get started.

           In order to take the charge from the battery basic wiring is required. More than anything else, time and heat can take the worst toll on basic electrical components. A simple process of replacing some wiring can be all that's required, or complete component replacement.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           There are also a few mechanical issues that can arise with a starter motor that could cause it to fail. The flywheel, for example, is made up of interlocking "teeth" which move the crankshaft and pistons. Over time the flywheel can degrade and cause the starter to cease functioning.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           The factory maintenance guide that's created by the car manufacturer every year is model specific and should be used as a minimum guide for routine maintenance. Not all vehicle models require the same schedule so it's important to use the specific manual for the specific year and model. Not maintaining a vehicle by specific factory minimum standards could result in denied warranty repairs.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Car Scheduled Maintenance Intervals
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Every schedule will list explicit maintenance procedures that should be performed at a certain mileage or time interval, whichever comes first. If an interval states that an oil and filter change needs to be performed at 5,000 miles or six months, it means whichever comes first, the 5,000 miles or the elapsed time of six months.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           As an example, if the vehicle has 3,000 miles since the last maintenance visit but it has been over six months then the next service should be performed.

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           To help the car owner keep track of their scheduled maintenance, we will place a sticker in the inside upper left corner of the windshield that lists when the next service should be performed. Most factory schedule booklets also provide an area where the car owner can record each service performed.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;

           Normal or Severe Duty Vehicle Operation
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           Many factory maintenance schedules will have two separate mileage and/or time intervals, one for normal operation and one for severe duty operation. Normal operation means the car owner drives at consistent highway speeds more often than stop and go city driving. Severe duty operation can include a vehicle that is:

           Heating and Cooling System Services
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           Failure of the heating and cooling system is the #1 cause of roadside breakdown, which is why heating and cooling system service is such an important part of maintaining your vehicle.

If you notice that your vehicle is beginning to overheat, it's very important to have the heating and cooling systems checked as soon as possible to help avoid some of the worst engine damage and repairs.

           We recommend having your heating and cooling system inspected regularly to help identify any possible problems before a component fails. Parts such as the radiator, hoses, cooling fans, water pump, and thermostat can wear out or begin to develop leaks.            Why Should You Flush and Refill Your Vehicle's Engine Cooling System?

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Neglecting your vehicle's cooling system can and will lead to a progressive failure of engine components such as water pumps, internal engine gaskets, freeze plugs, and aluminum parts. Also, heater core and radiation leaks can occur. These failures can be costly to repair can result in being stranded!
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           You see, after about 2 years, the lubricants and additives in the antifreeze start to lose their effectiveness due to constant changes in engine temperature and electrical forces. A chemical reaction between engine coolant (flowing over different metals within the engine cooling system) and antifreeze will begin to react with the electricity of the numerous electrical components. This reaction will force a change in the pH balance of the coolant and change it to an acidic state, which in turn corrodes the engine metals and cooling system components, which causes premature parts failures, gasket leaks, and costly repairs.

           Your exhaust system is more than a muffler. In some ways, it works like a chimney in your house, directing the byproducts of burning fuel away from the people inside. The exhaust system also controls noise and funnels the dangerous carbon monoxide away from the passengers. Your exhaust system also incorporates a catalytic converter which is used to control harmful emissions generated by the burning of fuel. The exhaust system also applies a certain amount of back pressure that is required by the engine to improve its fuel burning efficiency and increase RPM performance.            Disc brakes consist of a disc brake rotor, which is attached to the wheel, and a caliper, which holds the disc brake pads. Hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder causes the caliper piston to clamp the disc brake rotor between the disc brake pads. The creates friction between the pads and rotor causing your car to slow down or stop.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           A Quick Guide to Oil Changes and Filters

           Check your owner's manual to see if your driving habits are considered to be "severe service". This type of driving requires more frequent oil changes, warns the Car Care Council. Have the oil changed accordingly, usually every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. For less wear and tear on the engine, drivers in cold climates (sub-zero driving temperatures) should drop their oil weight from 10W-30 to 5W-30.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           Oil Filter Description:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            The typical oil filter consists of a high-strength steel housing containing various types of filtering media. An anti-drainback valve prevents oil from running out of the filter when the engine is off. Today's oil filters have a convenient spin-on design that makes removal and installation easy. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

           Oil Filter Purpose:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            The oil filter sifts out contaminants, allowing the oil to flow through the engine unrestricted. Should the oil filter become restricted or clogged with contaminants, they will flow around the filter. This bypassing is a safety mechanism, but you never want to let oil and filter changes go so long that bypassing takes place. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Oil eventually starts to turn into jelly - literally, petroleum jelly. Sludge clogs up oil passages and keeps oil from getting to some areas of the engine, causing parts to wear out prematurely, leading to expensive engine repairs. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           That's why you need to change the oil and oil filter on schedule - to get the old oil out before it turns into sludge. Your manufacturer will have a recommendation for how many you can go between oil changes. They also usually have a number of months between recommended oil changes. That's because the detergents and other additives in the oil break down over time. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Your owner's manual will have a recommendation for time and mileage, but you need to remember that it's based on using the recommended weight of oil. Also, if your vehicle comes from the factory with synthetic oil, the recommended intervals assume you continue to use synthetic oil.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Also, how you drive your vehicle can have a big effect. Most owner's manuals will have a list of driving conditions that are harder on your vehicle. Things like stop and go driving, short trips, or driving in very hot or cold weather, heavy loads, and towing. If some of your driving fits this you may need to change your oil and do other maintenance on a shorter schedule.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This may sound complicated. Some vehicles have an oil life calculator that takes all of these factors into account and tells you when you should change your oil.            Most car owners don't service their air conditioning until after it fails. Maintaining your car or truck air conditioning system means that you always have enough refrigerant to properly do the job. Small leaks in the air conditioning system allow the refrigerant to escape and the system can't cool the air as well.

           Along with the refrigerant, a special oil circulates in the system. The oil lubricates air conditioning components, and keeps the seals resilient. Low refrigerant and lubricating oil means that the air conditioning parts will wear out prematurely, and we all know that air conditioning repairs can sometimes be costly.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Air conditioning service at our shop starts with a visual inspection of the components for signs of damage or leaks. The compressor is driven by a belt from the engine - most often the serpentine belt - so it is inspected for cracks or wear.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           The air conditioning compressor and other components are checked for proper operation by ASE Certified Service Center Technicians. Then comes the leak test. If a leak is detected, often in a hose or connection, it's repaired and the system is retested. Our mechanics will also perform a temperature drop test.

Another thing to remember is the A/C system is used all year long; every time the defroster is used the A/C system is activated to assist in removing the moisture from inside the vehicle which can defog windows much faster than non-A/C-equipped vehicles.

           Condenser:

    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;

            The condenser's primary function is to cool the refrigerant. The condenser dissipates heat released by compressed gases and condenses them into high pressure liquids.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           Receiver (Drier):
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            The receiver is a metal container that serves as a storage receptacle for the refrigerant - also known as a drier because it absorbs moisture from the refrigerant and filters out harmful debris and acids. You should change your drier ever 3 - 4 years to ensure quality filtration and prevent any chemical damage.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Orifice Tube/Expansion Valve:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            The orifice tube, also known as the expansion valve, is a controlling mechanism that regulates refrigerant flow throughout the system. It also converts high pressure liquid refrigerant (from the condenser) into low pressure liquid, so that it can enter the evaporator.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Evaporator:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            The evaporator removes heat from the inside of your vehicle. The evaporator allows the refrigerant to absorb heat, causing it to boil and change into a vapor. When this occurs, the vapor leaves the evaporator through the compressor, cooling your car and reducing humidity. The evaporator houses the most refrigerant in the heat transfer process and harmful acids can corrode it. The corrosion typically damages the evaporator beyond repair.
           &#xD;
